I already own a Waves Soundgrid Extreme Server v3r1 It is way overkill, but it's actually the machine I built for my wave LV1 host computer. I built a i7 10700k machine that I can now use for a Waves Server.

You can, right now, update it just fine from SoundGrid Studio. If I had a different PSU that was ventilated from the sides, I totally could, but this one is ventilated from the top so I'm planning on either modding the case to provide better ventilation or getting a different PSU.If the plugin host crashes, audio may keep flowing if you're not using SG Connect. If the server crashes, audio stops flowing. In theory, yes, because its running the exact same hardware and the exact same software, but it remains to be seen. Maybe, not sure yet, might need some tweaking. In my case, I don't currently have a WSG card for my mixer, so I'm testing everything with SG Connect, which lets you connect an interface connected to your computer to the SG network, which works, but has higher latency. The plugins are then offloaded entirely onto the server.

If your mixer has a WSG card, you can plug it into a SoundGrid compatible network switch, plug the server into the switch, and plug some kind of plugin host into the switch (any Mac or PC with your Waves licenses on it).

What happens to the sound in case of a crash ? Does it keep running flat, does it cease, does it loopbug ?ĭo you need to keep some free-space on top of the server for cooling purposes or can you fit it inside a 2U rack ?Īre there issues about updates from waves ? Are they handled, do you have to do them manually or is it full offline mode ? Second, do you think it's stable enough to work in a live environnement ? Your mixer only has a i/o card and you have to setup it on the server for it to work. From there everything should work immediatly and you control your plugins directly from the server. You link it with the ethernet port of your server. I've never used plugins servers so please correct me if I'm wrong : If you don't mind, I have a few tons of questions.įirst, how does it work ? The way I understand, reading the forum, is the following. Hey man, I'm really interested in trying this.
